I can remember watching movies on rainy Saturday afternoons and the Italian girls would all be happy to get a ride on the Vespa or Lambretta and sit sideways. Do they do than anymore?

I don’t know. The film clip above is fairly old. Nadège du Bospertus doesn’t look like that any more. She is still in public life and in the fashion world, but she didn’t age well in my opinion (too thin).

And it is rather gooey in its romanticism. Still, it’s a cute moment.

Here is what Sir Kenneth Clark, the art historian, wrote in 1956:

‘ the nereids on antique sarcophagi ” balance on tails of tritons [and] must have been studied from nature, for they are in exactly the pose adopted by their daughters in modern Italy who occupy an equally precarious seat on the pillions of motor scooters ” ‘

I guess that sixty or seventy years will do that to anyone, but it is hard on skinny people. They get more angular. The years have been kind to Francoise Hardy, but she always had that “girl next door” look.

Yes, I did notice how the suit covers her angularities.

How about a Russian blonde with long hair singing a patriotic song? I was shocked to find out that this video was made when she was thirteen. I just never expected that.

What drives me nuts about this video is that there has to be an historical backstory about the two princesses that any schoolkid would know. I tried contacting the source without success.

I found another Russian blonde and this one knocked my socks off.

I hope that we don’t end up in a war with them. Only feminists would come up winners.

This time, a short haired brunette who sings in French and I hope can live up to her last name and speak to the Muses for you.

I failed with Juliette Greco. Her father was Corsican. But this one is definitely Greek and sings in French and is brunette. I hope that she can speak to the Muse of poetry for you.

It might be time to go nuclear. This is from the 1980 movie Xanadu whose plot centers on a Muse come to Earth. If you are diabetic and watch the movie, have insulin at hand,

I counted nine of them. They’re all there.
