Man’s Best Friend

This man adjusts his greyhound’s
coat and pats him as he waits
for the light to change.
The coat is red and black
like his master’s back pack.
Both long and rangy.
Both fit for life.
I often see another dog
in his coat going with his
master, in his own hi-vis
fluorescent vest,
about their duties picking
up rubbish by the road;
sharing his community
Dogs joined man in his
original fall.

This is one of my favorite animal videos. A puppy teaches her pet human to sing.

We will never know how man domesticated dogs, but it has to stand as one of our greatest achievements. My guess is that we never imposed restrictions on breeding as wolves do. They confine it to the alpha couple of the pack.

That’s a good point about dogs being not only “Man’s Best Friend” but “Man’s Greatest Achievement.”

Where would we be without them? I leave you with another. This one has refined taste.
