It must seem to be

a clever marketing idea,

to put an advertisement

on a bookmark,

to be tucked inside

a favourite book,

snug and near at hand.


But how often instead

will it mark the spot

where the reader gave

up, and sit imprisoned

on a shelf, forgotten

for ten years; to fall out

only then and puzzle

the browser, like an

unfashionable suit?
