You just burst my bubble. However, they are just a little bit too uniform. I thought it was the Chinese tendency to conformity. You may also have burst the bubble of young Chinese men looking forward to being rotated to Beijing.
A lot of nations do promote their female military to encourage young men to volunteer. It is mostly former Communist countries.

Looks a good play. Can’t see any legitimate political criticisms here that don’t take into account the current and former Vic government’s sponsorship of many other plays and artforms – controversial or not.

I suppose the problem is the associations with the Cultural Revolution and its excesses. I think I read that Mao only allowed 12 plays to be staged. This is the only one that became popular.

I take from that relief that we at least are free from the sorts of censorship and cultural suppression the far, usually authoritarian I guess, left and right have instituted throughout recent history.

Having been in marching band in high school, one thing that comes to mind is that while you can get a few hundred gorgeous women of about the same height in a country of a billion, teaching them all how to march is going to take a certain amount of time. I remember spending weeks for parade practice in high school. The formation is great–straight lines and they are in step– even if they look like ducks (hot sexy ducks of course) doing that goose step. Or hot sexy geese, I guess. Peking ducks in high heeled boots?
In other words, these ladies may not be officially soldiers, but in a manner of speaking, all of them have done a good portion of what we’d call basic training in the U.S.

I think they have put their best-looking girls in front.
There is a video on my blog too of North Korean women marching. It’s rather similar. The cameraman also picks pretty girls out of the crowd.
