Baubles

What is better in life than

Christmas baubles, partaking

of the perfection of spheres,

offering no geometric puzzles,

just enjoyably round?

And shiny and delicate,

teasing like a bubble or balloon

– fondle me, Big Boy,

though I may shatter like a dream

to shards and tears.

Baubles are frivolity, jollity;

good-time girls in a world

of solid practicality: bubbles

that happen along annually,

bobbling as the year ebbs.
