Nature came home

In the months since the house

next door went down, and the

land was cleared, Nature came

home: on the wings and in the

cries and deep eyes of parrots;

and she trod the weedy soil

with seeds for the birds; and

filled pools with her waters

in the gouged earth; making

herself at home again for a time.
