I can’t remember where I found that picture. I think it was Facebook, and it looks like there is a 1950s Holden (a General Motors car made in Australia) in the background. But I am no car guy.

Why does she look nice? I would say that she is bearing children, and at a sensible age. She has something to do with her time. She is not overfed. She is nicely presented in a modest dress. Of course there is no way of knowing anything about her in reality (I don’t think she is anyone famous), but given social expectations at the time, she had probably had a sane upbringing and had not been encouraged to become a tart.

The picture looks like Australia, and the woman has an Aussie look about her. I think there is such a thing.

My recollection is that women were mostly contented in those days. If you look at her expression, there is a feminine modesty, and maybe even humility, about her. She had probably not had her head stuffed full of feminist ideas. She is able to fulfill herself as a woman in a world constructed by men, and under the protection of men, most importantly her husband.
