Melanoma

Melanoma

What an irony it would be to die
of too many cells dividing while
outside everything is thriving
in the garden, meeting and
joining and splitting and growing;
and to die of a spot on your skin
where the sky beat down decades
ago as one lay unaware; ignorant
and innocent in the sun,
like a flower in a garden.
