Why ARE progressives morally selective?

I have sometimes wondered why the same people who cry over whaling often support late-term abortion.

And why activists are so concerned about the welfare of the babies of illegal immigrants but so unconcerned about unborn babies.

I wonder if it is that progressives give moral meaning to things and situations on subjective grounds. That is, babies acquire value only when the progressive feels they have value. It is situational and subjective, not objective.

That which they find useful is good.

That which they don’t is not.

    Perfectly consistent.

Yes, it is utilitarian or teleological ethics. But it is more than that. It is emotive. And the emotions slosh around, so that there is a hierarchy of people that deserve rights; and sometimes who deserves consideration depends on the latest social trend.

All that matters to them is their narrative. That’s it. So they pick and choose what to believe and what not to. They’re narcissistic, arrogant scum. Pure and simple.

  2. I think it’s compensation. If we believe in a conscience–and anyone who claims the name “Christian” ought to, whatever our theological differences–we have to assume that they know in their hearts that murdering the unborn is wrong. But they do it and endorse it, so they’ve got to have some facade of morality to show to the world.

Really a lot like the Pharisees in Mark 7:11-12; they had not done what the Law commanded, to honor father and mother, so they hid behind their donations to the Temple instead. Looks SO holy until one reads the Decalogue.
