Not really. Joker is a serial killer and Harley is his literal brainwashed submissive. Its the classic abusive relationship with DS overtones. Its especially nasty as she’s tried to quite him several times.

That said while Joker is a narcissistic murderous psychopath he does actually love Harley as much as such a person is capable of loving anyone.

She might be th eonly spot of good in him.

I was not entirely serious; but I do think it is telling when one of the few “traditional” relationships in modern comic-dom is this one.

  2. What I think is telling and revealing about any notions of ‘equality’ and even moral and spiritual equivalence between the sexes is:

Who is the evil one here, consciously responsible and choosing their actions? Who is blinded by choice?? Instinctively, what is most people’s reaction.

Even a previous comment here reveals the tendency to excuse female choice, which in fact could just as readily be argued is an admission (or at least and acceptance, its either one or the other), that females are not morally accountable and capable.

And you can;t turn it on and off to suit circumstances.

    Which is it…. REALLY??

From watching people’s actions, from seeing the last 40 years of feminism and the PC state, its NOT the one they claim it is. So why an I forced to subsidize it?

There used to be a presumption in British law that if a married couple had engaged in serious criminal acts, the woman had acted under compulsion. And presumably this meant she got more lenient treatment.

Prostitution is legal where I live (in Canberra, Australia). But we just had a (failed) attempt by female political representatives to criminalise it – but only for the men. Even more recently, we had absolute hysteria in the media because a visiting black cricket batsman flirted with a girl who was interviewing him on TV. But similar cases involving women flirting with men on TV have gone unremarked.

The common thread is that people don’t treat women as fully independent moral agents.

As you say, they can’t have it both ways. I would have no trouble if we all agreed that women needed special consideration by virtue of their being, as the bible puts it, “the weaker vessel”. But let’s be consistent.

If you remove the masks of evil from The Joker and Harley Quinn, one seems to see a strong male leader and a devoted female supporter – in other words a traditional relationship. Most of the above is, I think, “fan art”, but Harley is often shown like that – in attitudes of submissive body language.

And to outraged feminists, my response would be in one phrase: 50 Shades of Grey. At least in fantasy, women lap female submission up.

      • Indeed, here in Canada prostitution has effectively been made legal for women, but not for men. The change was pushed by feminist groups without any other input.

Men can be charged with the act and the attempt to procure prostitutes, but the women themselves are considered ‘victims’ and receive ‘support’ (tax payer funded services that employ and benefit state bureaucrats).

        Its got to stop.

  3. […] Another girlfriend of a supervillain, reminding me of Harley Quinn and The Joker, here and here. […]
