A very Ballardian image

A recent photograph from Toronto:

The combination of light planes and Toronto reminds me of Ballard’s work, in particular the film version of his novel Crash directed by David Cronenberg, which features an opening scene in a hangar with light planes, and is set in Toronto (although the novel itself is set in London). In any case, the cool contemporary aesthetic is very – as they say – Ballardian.

“Crash”: The Bedroom and the Road. (See the second section of this long post on the way in which Hollywood approaches the body and sex.)
