A feminine expression helps

We have come to expect sulky expressions on catwalk models, but a lot of ordinary modern women also look downright resentful. Happy female expressions are much less common on women than I remember even a few decades ago. It is hard to imagine many modern young women looking so obviously feminine and contented as the wife in this photo of an immigrant couple landing in Australia in 1963. (And unless my memory plays me false, a lot of women then did seem to look pretty contented with their lot. There is also some objective evidence that the majority of women were happier then.)

A little bit of feminine timidity can be attractive too:

I shall try to find some other examples of women with pleasant feminine expressions. As luck would have it, I just came across this at this site:

Isabella Rossellini in “Blue Velvet”.

Big eyes and feminine expressiveness are also covered at this old post of mine.

I am therefore ambivalent about this video of young Jesse Jane McParland on “Britain’s Got Talent 2015”. She is a wonderfully exciting performer, but look at the harsh facial expressions she pulls (like a small, female Bruce Lee). See her at 1:42 minutes, for example. But the whole performance is great stagecraft.
