Another note on the film “Metropolitan”

From the Unofficial Whit Stillman Page, some discussion on recent showings of director Whit Stillman’s films, including “Metropolitan”.

When “Metropolitan” was shown on Turner Classic Movies not long ago, I got a huge spike in traffic at my blog from people interested in what happened to Carolyn Farina, the actress who played the pretty ingenue, Audrey Rouget, in the movie.

Normally, I would probably just add this note to my very comprehensive and popular post on the actress and her curious career, but I am unable to do so for some technical reason (I suspect the post has simply grown too long).

In any case, the introductory Turner Classic Movies interview is of interest (as is the other material), but the interviewer does make one fairly major error. He says that the film “Metropolitan” was set in the 1980s. In fact, it is set in about 1970; a point I discuss in the third “chapter” of my post “Embodied Values: Hollywood Thinks About Sex”, and which Whit Stillman himself has confirmed elsewhere.
